  • What is the difference between a Public and Private invitation bid? +

    When posting a shipment a Shipper can elect a Public post or a Private Invitation bid. Selecting a Public post indicates that all Carriers interested in this type of freight will receive an email invite to bid. Selecting a Private invitation bid means the Shipper will choose a select group of Carriers to participate in the bid.
  • How many pallets can fit inside an ocean container? +

    Approximately 10 standard (40“x48”x48”) pallets can fit into a dry 20’ ocean container. Approximately 22 standard (40”x48”x48”) pallets can fit into a dry 40’ or 40 hi cube ocean container. Approximately 24 standard (40”x48”x48”) pallets can fit into a dry 45’ ocean container.

  • Where can I find information on shipping terms (Incoterms)? +

    • ExWorks (EXW): the seller fulfills his obligations by having the goods available for the buyer to pick up at his premises or another named place (i.e. factory, warehouse, etc.). Buyer bears all risk and costs starting when he picks up the products at the seller’s location until the products are delivered to his location. Seller has no obligation to load the goods or clear them for export.
    • Free Carrier (FCA): the seller delivers the goods export cleared to the carrier stipulated by the buyer or another party authorized to pick up goods at the seller’s premises or another named place. Buyer assumes all risks and costs associated with delivery of goods to final destination including transportation after delivery to carrier and any customs fees to import the product into a foreign country.
    • Carriage Paid To (CPT): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them to the carrier or another person stipulated by the seller at a named place of shipment. Seller is responsible for the transportation costs associated with delivering goods to the named place of destination but is not responsible for procuring insurance.
    • Carriage and Insurance Paid To (CIP): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them to the carrier or another person stipulated by the seller at a named place of shipment. Seller is responsible for the transportation costs associated with delivering goods and procuring minimum insurance coverage to the named place of destination.
    • Delivered at Terminal (DAT): seller clears the goods for export and bears all risks and costs associated with delivering the goods and unloading them at the terminal at the named port or place of destination. Buyer is responsible for all costs and risks from this point forward including clearing the goods for import at the named country of destination.
    • Delivered at Place (DAP): seller clears the goods for export and bears all risks and costs associated with delivering the goods to the named place of destination not unloaded. Buyer is responsible for all costs and risks associated with unloading the goods and clearing customs to import the goods into the named country of destination.
    • Delivered Duty Paid (DDP): seller bears all risks and costs associated with delivering the goods to the named place of destination ready for unloading and cleared for import.
    • Free Alongside Ship (FAS): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them when they are placed alongside the vessel at the named port of shipment. Buyer assumes all risks/costs for goods from this point forward.
    • Free on Board (FOB): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them when they are onboard the vessel at the named port of shipment. Buyer assumes all risks/cost for goods from this moment forward.
    • Cost and Freight (CFR): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them when they are onboard the vessel at the port of shipment. Seller bears the cost of freight to the named port of destination. Buyer assumes all risks for goods from the time goods have been delivered on board the vessel at the port of shipment.
    • Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF): seller clears the goods for export and delivers them when they are onboard the vessel at the port of shipment. Seller bears the cost of freight and insurance to the named port of destination. Seller’s insurance requirement is only for minimum cover. Buyer is responsible for all costs associated with unloading the goods at the named port of destination and clearing goods for import. Risk passes from seller to buyer once the goods are onboard the vessel at the port of shipment.
  • What is a “known shipper” for airfreight shipments? +

    The Known Shipper Program is an initiative to positively identify valid businesses in the United States. Only shippers who are “known” can ship cargo on passenger aircraft. In the post-September 11th era, shippers who have been properly vetted with the TSA by an air carrier or freight forwarder are considered a Known Shipper with the TSA. Such shippers may tender their freight for shipment on both passenger and cargo only aircraft with some restrictions.   • What does the freight rate include? +

    The freight rate includes the base rate plus all surcharges except the following: Local Customs Clearance, duty, taxes and port charges. If Port-to-Port rate is selected than the rate does not include Delivery to the Port at Origin or final delivery to the door at Destination

    Port to Port includes: Ocean or air freight, BAF, and destination handling charges. This does not include port charges, customs clearance (unless required by the shipper), import duty, or origin charges.

    Port to Door includes: Ocean or air freight, BAF, destination handling charges, and delivery to the shipper’s door. This does not include port charges, destination customs clearance (unless required by the shipper), import duty, or origin charges.

    Door to Door includes: Ocean or air freight, BAF, origin and destination handling charges, all origin customs clearance and documentation charges, and delivery to the shipper’s door. This does not include port charges, destination customs clearance (unless required by the shipper), and import duty.

Shipper

  • How are freight payments terms decided? +

    SimpliShip will share each party’s contact information with the other after the shipment has been awarded. Payment terms can then be arranged between the Shipper and the Carrier directly.
  • Can I end the Shipment bidding at any time? +

    Yes. The shipper has the right to select a Carrier and close out the shipment at any time.
  • Do I have to award the shipment to the lowest bidder? +

    No. The shipment can be awarded to the Carrier of your choice regardless of price. The SimpliShip marketplace will provide you with a profile of each Carrier as well as service reviews from other shippers participating in the marketplace.
  • What sort of freight does SimpliShip support? +

    We connect shippers importing and exporting from any origin and any destination in the world with dedicated, qualified NVOCC’ and freight forwarders. This includes ocean freight, both full container loads (FCL) and less than container loads (LCL) and airfreight.
  • What are my options for payment to SimpliShip? +

  • What is the shipper’s incoterm? +

    For every shipment that is created there is a field that is required to be filled out called “Service Type” within this field are a few options:

    • Door to Door & Door to Port – This means the shipper’s incoterm is EXW.
    • Port to Door & Port to Port – This means the shipper’s incoterm is FOB
  • How much time will we need to dedicate to submitting pricing on the SimpliShip marketplace? +

This information will allow the Shippers to make informed decisions that aren’t based solely on price.
  • What are my options for payment to SimpliShip? +

    Pricing is very simple! Your credit card will only be charged a transaction fee when a Shipper awards you their shipments.
